Socks: Diabetics

For the most part, the average person really doesn't consider the importance of their socks. Diabetics, at least the well informed ones, must consider their socks very carefully, because they are one of the most important garments they put on every day. The reason? Diabetic feet are vulnerable to injury more than any other part of a diabetic's body.

This may seem like a strange concept, but because diabetics are prone to lack of sensation (known as diabetic neuropathy) in their feet and lower legs, and because they are also prone to circulation problems (diabetic atherosclerosis/hardening of the arteries and calcification), any small wound on a diabetic foot can go unnoticed, untreated, and unhealed. It also means that the tiny abrasions and wear that a healthy foot would repair before infection sets in can easily become a problem for a diabetic, because circulation has a great deal to do with how quickly healing takes place, and infection takes hold much easier when there is a high blood sugar meal available. This can have disastrous consequences for the health of a diabetic.

Protection from injury and bad circulation are obvious goals that drove manufacturers to seek design solutions for socks. Diabetics and their specific needs were carefully researched and the technology that is available in yarns and textiles was utilized in the development of these special socks. Diabetic socks are designed to give a layer of soft cushion (especially the sole) against the normal bumps, dings, and scratches, insect bites, and the like, that the average person experiences without thinking of each day. They are also designed with a non-binding top to allow circulation and provides additional comfort to the wearer. Dr. Scholl’s diabetic socks are made to wick away moisture, to be antimicrobial in nature, and have a seamless toe woven into the socks. Diabetics can rest assured knowing that our socks are APMA (American Podiatric Medical Association) approved.

Dr. Scholl's socks offers diabetic socks in different styles and colors. Dr. Scholl's offers low cut socks, ankle socks, crew length socks (mid-calf), and over the calf lengths. The socks are styled to resemble standard sportswear style socks or dress socks, depending on the color selection, but are all woven of a specially selected moisture wicking yarn that is designed to help keep feet dry, and discourage fungal growth. They have more cushion than standard dress socks, but the color choices that are available make it difficult to distinguish. Antimicrobial treatment has also been applied to these socks. Diabetics benefit from all of these qualities, helping to improve the conditions of their feet. Other individuals, particularly those who are often on their feet, who have problems with foot moisture and microbe growth, and individuals who work in damp or wet conditions also benefit from the qualities of this type of socks. Diabetics or non-diabetics, Dr. Scholl's socks offers great quality diabetic socks and other medical hosiery for a great price.

Always consult your physician before wearing diabetic socks. Dr. Scholl’s socks are not intended to cure or treat any ailment or disease but are constructed to provide comfort to everyday life.
